To All Members

I hope you are keeping well in these most unusual of times, and i hope most importantly that you are managing to keep running (and sane) as much as possible!

We think as a committee that it is important to keep you all informed with the latest goings on in the running community and also to ensure that you know we are keeping up to date with all Government policy. We know that everyone wants to get back to run club activities as soon as it is safe to do so, and we will continue to ensure that that happens as soon as it can!

The latest Government guidelines have led UK Athletics to revise their statement from early May 2020 to state the following:

"You may meet with FIVE other people from outside your household to exercise outdoors, whilst following social distancing guidelines. This means that if you do take part in such an activity YOU MUST remain at least 2 metres apart AT ALL TIMES from those outside your household".

Unfortunately the UKA's guidance continues to be that all running club activities remain suspended until further notice.
Again i must state that we will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates whenever possible going forward.

I also want to say a big congratulations and well done for all those taking part in the ARR bingo that was posted on the Facebook page. This led to some very amusing and inspiring videos and photos. A very well done especially to all those who completed the full Bingo card - we will have some prizes ready for when we come back.

For now the only thing left to say is that we hope you and your families continue to stay safe and healthy, and remember to talk to your fellow members to keep in touch, even if you aren't meeting up to run!

All the best,

Fred - on behalf of the Accrington Road Runners Committee.

(message will expire on Mon 31/Aug/2020).

The Route - Ribble Valley 10k course

Cost -No charge for this event, but members will have to pay for their own food and drink.

Format Each runner will submit their estimated race time for a 10k. This time should be their best 10k time OR a fair time that reflects the runners current form. The time should be rounded down to the nearest 30 seconds. (EG 42:49 = 42:30). Each runner will set off at different times (slower runners first)
EG Runners that would expect to finish the 10k in 60 minutes would set off at 6:45pm whereas those with an estimated time of 45 minutes would start at 7pm etc. hopefully creating an exciting finish. In theory everyone has an equal chance of wining if they run to their usual race pace.

Please support this event we need lots of runners to make it a success. Please run in your club vest.

Although you can just turn up on the day it would be a great help if you can let Graham know beforehand if you are running and also your estimated 10k time

There will be lots of prizes including a booby prize for the runner that finishes far faster than their estimated time, not a prize you want to win, so be fair with your time!!!

Sat 15/Aug/20 Race the Train
Event post by: Graham Morris
Category: Social events
Event Venue: North Wales
Event Time: 1pm
Who's invited?: All are welcome
Details: This fantastic event attracts over 1000 runners. The main race follows a 14 mile multi terrain route alongside Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn with runners trying to beat the train. Spectators are welcome and can enjoy watching the race by travelling on the train and shout encouragement as it passes the runners.
There is an alternative 10K race for those that dont fancy the full distance.
The race is on Saturday 17th followed by prize giving and evening entertainment. It is your choice whether to travel on the day of the race, but ideally it would be good to stay over night Friday and Saturday night. With a number of our members having tents and caravans we could make it a camping weekend. There are plenty of B&B for those that dont fancy a night under canvas. For those interested it is advised to enter the race early. We have provisionally booked a number of pitches at a campsite but not yet confirmed definite numbers. If you would like a pitch please let Graham know your requirements, number of nights and how many tents etc. Its a great weekend with many of our runners competing so come and join us, all welcome. Category: Points race - road
Event Venue: Lytham St Annes
Event Time: 11.05am

Details: 7th and final road race of our series.
A fast and flat course on the coastal front of Lytham, starting on Lytham Green next to the Windmill itself. A two minute silence is observed before the start of the race for Remembrance Sunday.

The event first ran in 2011 with 500 runners lining the route. It was a very memorable day with a respectful two minutes silence before the start, then runners set off taking in some great sights of this lovely town including the iconic Lytham Windmill. Due to the success and feedback from runners it is now an annual event. The 2019 event saw an entry of 2350, its capacity, so is now a very popular event. It is also very flat and certified as accurately measured by the Association of UK Course Measurers and licenced by UK Athletics.
