Details have been released regarding the worsthorne with hurst wood team relay taking place on Saturday 14 march . ( see club events ) . I will be asking for names on Tuesday nights and other training nights . We hope to have a number of equal, mixed ability ,teams enter . Hyndburn – Park Run

We have been asked by parkrun would we be willing to “take over” the 22nd February run. This would include everything from the time keeping to the marshalling of the route. We estimate 20 to 25 of our members would be needed to make sure everything is covered.

Since this event started in 2017, we have had 77 of our members complete almost 1000 runs, more than any other club……………. It is only fair we do our share and give the organisers a day off.

Let’s show our support for parkrun and turn up in large numbers to make it a fantastic run.

Our first 2 x Club Road Races have both been "sell out" events with some of our members missing out on a race number. Lostock 6 mile is on 23rd Feb this is also a popular race. Dont leave it too late and enter early, so we dont have any members missing the race.

At the a g m Julia suggested that more emphasis could be directed towards team relay events ( for all ) . One such event that we intend to have several teams in is the hurstwood trail race . This takes place on Saturday 14th march . All members are positively encouraged to get involved. More nearer the time(message will expire on Mon 30/Mar/2020).

After listening to feedback from various members, can we recommend that anybody with any special diet requirements or allergies that are attending future club events wether Summer Runs or other social events, please contact the venue directly and in advance to arrange their meals please. Tuesday group runs

ridge to Craig Cau, Cadair Idris

Thank you for your interest in our club.

  • We welcome new members and hope you find the forthcoming information useful.
  • We meet at Wilson's playing field (Woodland Drive, Clayton-le-Moors, BB5 5SD) at 6.20 p.m. for a 6.30 p.m. start.
  • Parking in the lower car park or if full, park on the local streets.
  • We generally have 5 running groups taking between 60 and 80 minutes to complete the session.

As a guide the following groups include runners that complete a standard road 10k (6 miles) race in the following times:

Please run in a group that is a fair reflection of your current fitness. Running in the wrong group will not only spoil your night but the rest of the runners in that group. Being in the wrong group applies to both too fast as well as being too slow.

Before the run
Please ensure that you:
  • Are physically able to complete the run at the pace and duration as indicated above.
  • Wear suitable clothing and correct footwear. On dark evenings wear some form of light coloured/fluorescent clothing. Winter runs are generally along the roads whereas summer running tends to be a mixture of on and off road.
  • Take adequate amounts of fluids leading up to the run. It is also sensible to carry a running bottle to replace lost fluids.
  • Have a light meal 2 hours before your run.
  • Do not bring dogs or wear MP3 players/headphones etc.
  • Warm up before the run and cool down after it.
  • Carry any required medication and notify your group leader of any injuries or medical conditions.

During the run
As a club we advocate that all runners:
  • Stay within the group they are running with for the whole run.
  • Maintain a “chain” between the last and first runner throughout the run. You should have visual contact with the runner behind and in front of you at all times. Should you lose visual contact communicate this immediately along the chain to ensure that the whole group re-groups.
  • Shout any oncoming obstacles, obstructions or dangerous situations.
  • For group safety we advocate that runners “Loop back” at regular intervals. Within each group runners abilities will vary and it is therefore vital that the lead runners loop back. We have found the loop back method an effective and fair way to cater for all runners needs in the group. It is not good practice to wait for the back runners to catch up, as when they arrive the lead runners will be fully recovered and head off at a pace too intense. We therefore strongly advocate the loop back method at regular intervals.
  • Abide by the highway and country code where necessary.
  • Please be very vigilant when running along/crossing roads and tracks. It is very easy to become distracted when running in groups. Your safety should be your paramount concern.
  • Please notify the leader should you experience any problems or difficulties during the run.

End of run
It is best practice to cool down after a run. This should entail a gradual decrease in running pace at the end of your run (5 – 10 minutes) and static stretches. If you have any other queries or concerns please speak with one of our Tuesday group leaders.
