Sorry to have to ask but I'm starting to panic a bit.I am running the Yorkshire Marathon next month (8th October) and usually my wife drives me there and we stay overnight with family. Now, the problem I have is that the DWP have taken her motobility car off us so I am now struggling for a lift.Is anyone running this as well who is travelling up on the day who I can scrounge a lift off? I will not only pay the full fuel cost but also a little extra for your troubles.I should be ok to make my own way home on public transport so would only need a lift there. Thanks in advance.Josh(message will expire on Sun 08/Oct/2017).

Accrington 10k Marshal Request. Our annual 10k race is coming up on Sunday 29th October. For those who do not know; as members we are required to marshal the route and therefore cannot enter the race unless you can find a non member to volunteer on your behalf. However, I am working on outsourcing some of the less significant marshal points which should create a limited amount of entries for members to run the race. Please look out for updates on this in the coming weeks. All proceeds of the race will be going to The East Lancs Hospice and this race could not go ahead without members being kind enough to give up their free time. Please can members contact Michele Baker (Head Marshal) to offer their support. Thanks in advance.(message will expire on Mon 30/Oct/2017).

A selfless act by David Sagar in a recent Fell Race.... a true sportsman. Well done David, ARR should be proud of you!

It appears that David stopped during the race to help an injured runner... and at the expense of his position in the race.  See F/book for more details

Just a reminder – Wilsons Athletics Track is available to us every Thursday, 5:30pm to 6:30pm. We have a number of runners of all abilities currently using this facility for track sessions. Everyone is welcome! Speedwork doesn’t just make you run faster, it makes you more comfortable at all speeds and increases your fitness. Just a reminder to all our runners regarding the rule on club vests.
When competing in any race or event as an attached member of Accrington Road Runners; it is expected you wear (and display) a club vest.
This is particularly important when representing the club in team events and in our club races.
The club vest helps advertise and promote the club gives us a presence in races.
Club vest are available from Colette

Due to the nature of the race and time of year, there are strict rules that have to be adhered to. Teams have been disqualified for not following these rules.

  1. It is mandatory that every competitor must wear or carry windproof (preferably waterproof) whole body cover i.e.: cagoule and over trousers appropriate for the weather conditions. Hat and gloves are also recommended. Map of the course, compass and whistle are also to be carried. The above items are usually carried in a "bum bag" which must not be passed on to the next runner at leg changeovers. Competitors must make sure they are at the start of their leg in sufficient time for the kit checks to be carried out. (See enclosed - times)
  2. The official route must be followed; teams will be disqualified if short cuts are taken. We recommend you familiarise yourself with the route before the event (see enclosed - routes). Please arrange with your partner to reccie your leg.
  3. Pairs should run together were possible, but must be together when entering the changeover points.
  4. A team vest or (club colours - yellow) must be worn with the team number on the front. This will assist the officials at changeover.
  5. The Sportident timing system will be used on the event. A "dibber" will be carried by one team member who will "check in" after the leg by placing the "dibber" in a control box and then pass it to the outgoing team. If this "dibber" is lost the team will be disqualified.
  6. Obey the Countryside Code, don't leave litter, close gates, (All gates MUST be closed; teams not doing so will be instantly disqualified). Fields are not to be used as toilets and use appropriate areas when changing. Car parking will be a problem - please park sensibly.
