If you don’t think you will be up to running on Saturday morning following the club Christmas ‘do’, how about getting some fresh air to help clear your head by volunteering to marshal at the Hyndburn Parkrun. They are also looking for volunteers for the events over the Christmas period. If you are able to help please let them know either via their website or on their Facebook page. Thanks Paul.(message will expire on Tue 31/Dec/2019).

On conclusion of the red rose x country season , our ladies came an excellent second in both the main and vet category. Our men were a creditable sixth in both . Individually, Glen Goodwin, Debbie Gowans and Louise Stevenson were category winners . Our numbers taking part are up and generally it's been a good set of races for our club . Well done to all(message will expire on Sun 08/Dec/2019).

Paying for the Christmas Do

We've made it easier to pay for the Christmas Do this year. Expect an email later today from Membership MoJo (the same one which reminds you to pay your subs) with details.

Please let us know if you are coming and pay as soon as possible. This is very important for the venue, the caterer and for those organising the event. Thank you.

Christmas Do - By popular demand the Christmas do is at Great Harwood Golf Club again on FRIDAY 6th December. There will be a live band, a disco and the ever popular raffle. There is no need to make menu choices in advance as you will be able to choose on the night. The will be a wide variety of menu options including the traditional Christmas fare and of course vegitatrian options. The cost is £20 per head, which we think you will agree is very reasonable indeed - the event is subsidised from the Club.

Please can we have numbers attending as soon as possible. Please make your payment in advance to either Michele Baker or myself. Here's looking forward to a great evening. Please inform of any food intolerances when booking.

Just a reminder to all our runners regarding the rule on club vests.
When competing as a member of Accrington Road Runners in a race or event; it is expected you wear (and display) a club vest.
This is particularly important when representing the club in team events and in our club races.
The club vest helps advertise and promote the club gives us a presence in races.
Club Vests are available from Colette or Liam

Due to the nature of the race and time of year, there are strict rules that have to be adhered to. Teams have been disqualified for not following these rules.

  1. It is mandatory that every competitor must wear or carry windproof (preferably waterproof) whole body cover i.e.: cagoule and over trousers appropriate for the weather conditions. Hat and gloves are also recommended. Map of the course, compass and whistle are also to be carried. The above items are usually carried in a "bum bag" which must not be passed on to the next runner at leg changeovers. Competitors must make sure they are at the start of their leg in sufficient time for the kit checks to be carried out. (See enclosed - times)
  2. The official route must be followed; teams will be disqualified if short cuts are taken. We recommend you familiarise yourself with the route before the event (see enclosed - routes). Please arrange with your partner to reccie your leg.
  3. Pairs should run together were possible, but must be together when entering the changeover points.
  4. A team vest or (club colours - yellow) must be worn with the team number on the front. This will assist the officials at changeover.
  5. The Sportident timing system will be used on the event. A "dibber" will be carried by one team member who will "check in" after the leg by placing the "dibber" in a control box and then pass it to the outgoing team. If this "dibber" is lost the team will be disqualified.
  6. Obey the Countryside Code, don't leave litter, close gates, (All gates MUST be closed; teams not doing so will be instantly disqualified). Fields are not to be used as toilets and use appropriate areas when changing. Car parking will be a problem - please park sensibly.
